Enjoy beautiful coastal walks straight from the front door of Drinan House.

Many are attracted to Skye by the dramatic landscape - walkers and climbers are keen to conquer the Cuillins and wildlife enthusiasts are rewarded with some rare species in their natural habitat. For walkers and climbers, Drinan House is perfectly located at the southern end of the Cuillins and very convenient for Blaven, the jagged and craggy mountain which ascends spectacularly behind the house. There are some breathtaking lower level walks as well, such as along the coastline from the house to Elgol. For those interested in wildlife there is the possibility of observing dolphins, porpoises, otters, whales, sea and golden eagles, along with an array of sea birds, as well as deer and some more unusual mountain birds such as the ptarmigan, dotterel and red kite.

Skye's rich heritage means that you won't suffer from a lack of things to do. Dunvegan Castle is a popular visitors attraction, as is Armadale Castle gardens and museum. Other places of interest are the island's only whisky distillery at Talisker or the many art galleries to be found in Broadford and Portree. For something a little different, visit the Skye Serpentarium.

There are regular boat trips from Elgol during the summer months and details of these can be obtained from the Tourist Information office in Broadford or the links on the Useful Information page.

Some of Scotland's best restaurants are on Skye, and with the abundance of quality local produce, it's not difficult to see why. Enjoy some of the excellent local seafood such as lobsters, crabs, mussels and scallops, or perhaps some equally good venison or lamb. Right on the doorstep of Drinan House is Coruisk House (on the road to Elgol) which offers an excellent and varied menu focussing on fresh local produce. It is open from March until October and is well worth a visit. Claire Macdonald is a well respected author of numerous cookery books and her Kinloch Lodge restaurant is located on the Sleat peninsula. The world renowned Three Chimneys restaurant can be found at Colbost and it's reputation for top quality food has earned it a Michelin star.
